Amalgamation and Improbable Alliances

The pattern was created in equal parts method and chance, and applied to Number 5. A collection of events scrambled and recombined to imagine a future expectation. The Amalgamation of five and one seventy-nine with adjustments three through eleven.

Improbable alliances. A twig with thorns and quail egg in a bottle cap. A thicket captured in digital amber. A scrap of rough sawn wood. A cube and fragment of twisted wire. A cup “borrowed” from Donna’s recent efforts, filled by a game’s protagonist and a chain to bind. Well . . . the egg broke and so did the twig  . . . and the wire, and what started as a playful exercise morphed into a full on project. I think of them as story telling, collaborations of  histories, precursors to the paintings. Dimensional sketches to enlighten the illusions of paint.

Just Like Swimming

#224 – March 2017

Feeling the motion minus the progress, so put down the brushes and taking a different tack.  I’m a patient painter and moving forward often requires a few steps sideways. It’s going where the fun takes me, and for now, I’m in the woods, delving into collected odd lots, piecing things together.
